Level & Game Designer

The Pawn

Duties: Level, Systems, Puzzle, Enemy Designer, Programmer, Pixel Artist, Sound Designer. 

Tools: Game Maker Studio, Photoshop, Audacity, InDesign, Word, pencil and paper.

The Pawn was my final project for the Fine Arts college degree. I created a vertical slice of a non-violent metroidvania with a moveset inspired by Super Meat Boy. It came accompanied with a 30-page dossier I wrote explaining the history of 2D platformers and the different kinds of walljumps to be found.

I programmed it in GameMaker studio, created the visuals in Photoshop and edited the sounds in Audacity. For the music (the only think I did not do myself), I was incredibly lucky to get the help of Javier Mas. He is an incredibly talented Spanish strings player, who has worked with artists the size of Leonard Cohen (please follow this link and enjoy). To this day I am still tremendously grateful to him for providing his music to my little student project.

The jury gave the project a 10/10 with Honors.
